Abstract
This proposal requests funds to expand the testing instrumentation capability of the 3x3 wind tunnel in the Department of Aeronautics & Astronautics. The Sting Balance is a unique test instrument that has the ability to measure six forces and moments, i.e., yaw, roll, pitch, side, normal, and axial on a subscale airplane model or other test article. The current sting balances were donated more than 30 years ago and are damaged, thus severely limiting their usefulness for instruction.
