Abstract
This proposal requests funding for an interactive, augmented-reality sandbox to be used as a teaching aid and software development platform. The system combines an XBOX Kinect sensor and video projector to overlay a topographic map of the sand surface onto the sandbox, updating in real time. The device can readily be integrated into existing courses teaching interpretation of topographic maps, enhancing learning experiences for over 600 students per quarter in the ESS dept. alone.
