About Access Technology

The Access Technology Center supports students with a wide range of disabilities, serving as a vital accessibility resource for the UW community. The center provides assistive technology and services including braille production, alternate document formats, keyboard and mouse alternatives, and specialized accessibility software. The staff work closely with students to ensure that technology remains accessible and inclusive for all.

How STF Helped

As equipment aged and software updates were no longer supported, the ATC required funding to modernize its technology. The goal was not only to provide up-to-date tools, but also to expand available resources to better serve a growing number of students. Through Student Technology Fee, the ATC was able to purchase new monitors, a braille embosser, updated accessibility software, and upgraded workstations. Located in the lower level of Mary Gates Hall and free to all UW students, the Access Technology Center continues to support Huskies by ensuring technology access in whatever capacity they need.

The Impact

A highlight that was shared by Gaby de Jongh, stated that through the funding the ATC was able to support a deaf-blind student during their internship with the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Through providing Braille and tactile access the team was able to ensure the student could participate and remain on pace throughout their time interning.
