Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles Team Equipment Upgrade

UW School of Oceanography

About UWROV

The Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles Team UWROV is an interdisciplinary club where students create and engineer underwater robots. For the team's operations to run smoothly, up-to-date equipment is necessary for safe and advanced technology. Regular competitors in the MATE ROV Competition, the UWROV team has placed within the top 10 over the last 4 years. The team's goal is to give UW students real-life experience of engineering in an ocean technology field.

How STF Helped

As the team grew and engineered new robotic technology, they noticed that their equipment was no longer meeting their needs or keeping up with the advancements. The team leaders created a proposal to receive updated and new technology in hopes of meeting the needs of their RSO. The Student Technology Fee Committee accepted the proposal and supplied them with the funds needed for a workshop upgrade.

The Impact

Because of the STF award, the team now can have in-house manufacturing equipment and no longer needs to reuse past outdated projects or borrow tools. Now the team is working on their new ROV to take the competition by storm in their next upcoming competition.
