About Washington Superbike

Starting 8 years ago, two UW students had a dream to develop an electric motorcycle; that dream has now turned into the Washington Superbike RSO here at the University of Washington. With the superbike Marauder, T3 in progress currently, the team of around 70 members work from across majors to build a fully electric motorcycle. The team is currently preparing for their upcoming track event in Summer of 2026.

How STF Helped

When modeling and designing a fully electric bike that will take the team to victory, the technology that creates and simulates these components is vital. The team struggled with the outdated equipment they had. Their old equipment was slow, making it difficult to design and test. It was also hard to store their bike data as the old computers didn'thave the storage capacity they needed, which slowed down the overall process of creating the bike. A member of the Superbike team crafted a proposal to the Student Technology Fee asking for funding for their computers so that the process would run smoother and faster. Our committee agreed to the proposal and funded new CAD computers that made the team’s work more efficient.

The Impact

Through our funding, the team can now run simulations on the bike as a whole, while previously was only able to run smaller parts individually. While the team is currently moving locations to the new Interdisciplinary Engineering Building, they are still working hard on creating the next fully electric motorcycle that will take the crown at the Summer 2026 competition.
